I was flipping through the photos of my New York visit last year, and I paused at the not-so-big bronze sculpture, called The Fearless Girl Statue, which is located in the Financial District of Manhattan.
Installed on International Women's Day 2017, she was placed opposite the iconic Charging Bull statue on Wall Street, and presently she stands looking at the New York Stock Exchange.
The statue depicts a young Hispanic girl with hands on her hips, looking upwards. It is as if challenging the status quo of the male-dominated financial industry, drawing attention to the lack of women in #leadership roles there. The statue exuberates confidence that stands as a beacon for women's #empowerment. It embodies the values of leadership, and courage, and is a reminder to stand up for what you believe in. It serves as a call for greater gender #diversity in business and leadership. It encourages us to #embraceEquity, work towards a more #inclusive society and recognise that everyone has a unique background and experience that must be respected and valued.
#Equality means access to the same opportunities and resources, regardless of gender, age or sexuality. And #Equity, is going a step further- in identifying the needs of a specific group to be able to access those opportunities.
As a Leader, you can demonstrate your commitment to equity by eliminating systemic barriers and biases. You can encourage diversity in thought. So what are you, as a #Leader, doing in your capacity to redress this imbalance?
This may call for a closer look at your #values and your internal operating framework.
I support Leaders in creating that #shift
"Know the power of women in Leadership. SHE makes a difference"
